1. Designing the delivery of heating and hot water on an industrial scale

We recognise that right now few organisations will be looking to move ahead with wholly new industrial boiler plant installation. But as burner technology is constantly evolving, you may still need to select the most energy-efficient boiler if you do need to replace an old unit. And we can advise on shifting to different fuel types, such as biomass boilers.
To provide a safe and healthy workplace, manufacturing companies also need access to hot water. We can help you to consider whether there are opportunities to rationalise heat supply by replacing a central industrial boiler system with individual point-of-use sources. We can also help you to consider the benefits of heat recovery, reusing waste heat to reduce energy consumption of the process itself. 2. Limiting industrial boiler emissions through maintenance and repair
We’ve talked in our blog before about the European Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD). It came into effect in the UK in December 2017, limiting emissions of certain pollutants from any combustion plant with a thermal input of 1-50 megawatts. This encompasses noxious gases, but also (for instance) ash generated by burning biomass. Overall, the MCPD affected around 17,000 industrial plants in the UK, applying to both new and existing equipment. For older systems, we can work with you to modify the existing plant to meet longer-term carbon reduction and MCPD goals.
For most of our clients, and especially ones with industrial boilers, the current focus is on maintenance and repair. Whether it’s the boiler itself or the pipework for water, steam, and gas services, we’ll keep your boiler system running at peak efficiency. We’ll always follow the highest levels of health and safety management to ensure no staff or contractors on site are put at risk. We’ll pay particular attention to heat transfer surfaces and air-to-fuel ratios. As well as maintaining your boiler, we can check for system leaks and insulate pipework to prevent heat losses. And in older systems, we can often identify redundant pipework, or ‘dead legs’, which cause unnecessary heat loss.
3. Keeping air cool with well-maintained well-controlled HVAC systems
For many companies with industrial boilers, it’s also vital to cool air as well as heat water. Beyond boilers, we can maintain and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC). Even if we haven’t designed your entire HVAC system, we can maintain the air handling unit (AHU), which is the central element which regulates and circulates air. Our maintenance engineers will keep the unit working by putting together a maintenance schedule and undertaking repairs where necessary.
Using communications and data technology more fully in controlling industrial HVAC systems will also enhance energy efficiency. Better control systems can also ensure that processes don’t operate at a higher temperature or for longer than necessary, as rates of heat loss increase with temperature.
